FACT: There were only 1500 copies published of the first impression...(some speculate that only about 240 exist today).

THE HOBBIT 1937 FIRST EDITION, SECOND IMPRESSION ....Published, London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd., Museum Street; Copyright 1937, 310 pages, second impression, published in 1937. Laid in signature card SIGNED by J.R.R. Tolkien, the finest example we have ever seen.The book is in VERY GOOD condition. Pages are clean and bright, with the boards showing only moderate rubbing or wear, slight spine slant and outward warp of the rear board. Spine faded, but still a very nice copy in publishers green cloth, with authors dark blue dragon and mountain design to both boards. Small Oxford book store label on bottom of front map and slight discoloration to the rear map . A previous owner's inscription for Christmas 1937 has been erased and is barely visibly on the front flyleaf, no other writing or inscriptions. A beautiful copy! The book comes complete with a facsimile first impression dustjacket and Archive-quality mylar dustjacket protective cover. *** N/A ***
